Brussels

The legal staff of the Brussels office is composed principally of Belgian-qualified lawyers specializing in various areas of Belgian and international business law. All of these lawyers conduct their practices in at least two of the following languages -- English, French, Dutch and German, and most have studied and/or practiced law in the U.S. or elsewhere outside of Belgium prior to joining Dechert’s Brussels office. The EU law department of Dechert’s Brussels office is staffed by a combination of Belgian and non-Belgian lawyers, all of whom have pursued specialized studies in EU law (and in many cases have worked within the EU Community institutions) prior to joining Dechert’s Brussels office.

For more than 40 years, Dechert’s Brussels office has provided legal advice to foreign and domestic companies, banks, international associations, high-tech companies and the Belgian government. Our lawyers are highly regarded and widely recognized throughout the region as among the best in their respective practice areas and therefore ranked by the leading directories, including Chambers Europe, Chambers Global, Legal 500 and PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook. Much of the office’s work is cross-border transactional work performed in cooperation with Dechert lawyers in other offices of the firm. Associates have the opportunity to work on important and complex matters, frequently involving the interplay of the laws of multiple jurisdictions.

Dechert’s Brussels office represents clients in business and transactional matters, including multinational company formation, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, investment fund formation, regulatory compliance, licensing agreements, corporate finance, tax planning and real estate transactions. Dechert lawyers in Brussels also have capabilities in labor law, trade regulation and unfair trade practices, environmental law, and intellectual property. In addition, the Brussels office also handles both EU and European national antitrust issues in relation to the corporate transactional practice.

Dechert’s Brussels lawyers have worked closely on pan-European and international transactions, and have played a pivotal role in more Belgian IPOs and contested takeover transactions than virtually any other group of lawyers in Brussels.
