When you join us as a summer associate, you’ll discover firsthand what it’s like to work at one of the most respected and dynamic firms in the country.
What’s different about our program is that we tailor the assignments to match your interests. Our summer associates do not formally rotate through practice groups or departments. Rather, you can choose to focus on one practice group or to sample many. We want you to get a broad and close-up view of the practice of law, so we encourage all summer associates to attend closings, depositions, hearings, oral arguments, trials, negotiations, and board meetings.
You’ll be assigned to at least one mentor and/or summer committee representative in your office. These attorneys will ensure that you have a meaningful work experience throughout the summer and that you receive the types of assignments that best match your interests.
Summer associates learn about Dechert’s core practice areas from a series of presentations by partners and associates. Summer associates also attend regular practice group meetings and associate training sessions. Formal and informal training are key aspects of our program, and we give summer associates a realistic view of what it’s like to practice law at Dechert.
Our summer program also provides plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with our attorneys in more relaxed settings. Outings to museums, partners’ homes, sporting events, and restaurants are just a few examples of ways in which summer associates get to know their colleagues and the cities we’re in. A trip to Dechert's London office has been a highlight of our summer program.
